Aldi, Woolworths sells Ingham chicken nuggets that taste like McDonalds

Sometimes all you want is a Macca’s but just the thought of leaving your house is enough to make you want to cry.

But a group of Aussie mums may have found the answer to your hungover prayers after discovering a dupe of those infamous golden delights — and they cost just $3.49 in Aldi.

Describing Ingham’s Chicken Breast Tempura Nuggets as “just like McDonald’s nuggets”, the post about the secret dupe attracted plenty of attention before being deleted just hours after it was shared on Facebook.

However, not before the team here at news.com.au clapped eyes on it and headed straight to Aldi to get our hands on the goods and find out if there was any truth to the bold claims.

Unlike toilet rolls and hand sanitiser, there were boxes galore of the highly-rated chicken nuggets at my local store in Marrickville. The nuggets are also sold in Woolworths but at $3.60, will cost you 11c more than Aldi to take home the 400g of golden goodness.

“They are so good, they’re a great copy cat,” one mum declared on the now-deleted post.

So I fired up my air fryer and loaded up the nuggs.

Twelve long minutes later and the crispy pieces of chicken emerged, looking pretty damn good I’m not going to lie.

After seasoning with a bit of salt and pepper, I took the plunge.

And just as the trusty mums on Facebook had claimed, the nuggets really did taste just like the ones at Macca’s — and I should know.

I’ve got a weird phobia of condiments like Big Mac sauce and tomato sauce so it's the only thing I ever order from the fast-food giant, with fries, obviously. I’m not a monster.

And the Aldi nuggets had more life than a box of limp Macca’s nuggets delivered to your door by an Uber Eats driver on a push bike, they were crisp and piping hot.

They also had more flavour than I expected and were very, very tasty. Definitely a better quality than other supermarket chicken nuggets.

A few other commenters on the post claimed Ingham’s are the brand Macca’s buy their nuggets from — but no one at McDonald’s Australia responded to news.com.au’s request for comment.

On mum blog Mouths of Mums, 24 mothers have rated the freezer product out of five, giving it an overall 4.4 rating.

“The tempura coating is light and delicious and the chicken is moist and very tasty. So handy to have in the freezer and ready in about 20 minutes,” one wrote in their review.

“Whoever invented this tempura coating is a legend! these nuggets are the best,” another said.

But I’d honestly give these a solid 5. They’re much cheaper than the Macca’s version, which will set you back $8 for 10 pieces.

If the reason the post was deleted was to protect this delicious secret, we get it. But this one is just too good to keep to ourselves.
