Jeopardy! Champ Amy Schneiders Win Streak Has Ended After 40 Games Celeb Secrets

Publish date: 2024-07-15

It’s game over for Jeopardy champ Amy Schneider’s win streak.

On January 26, Schneider’s 40 game streak was put to an end by new champ Rhone Talsma, a librarian from Chicago.

Although Schneider lost due to being unable to get the correct answer for the final Jeopardy, her 40 consecutive wins placed her as the second-longest consecutive winner on the game show.

Many were shocked that Schneider lost yesterday’s show, but according to ET, Schneider said, “I had a feeling my time was winding down, even though it didn’t look that way in the scores.”

She went on to say that there are no hard feelings towards new winner Rhone Talsma. “I had thought that Rhone was going to be tough going into it,” said Schneider. “I loved hanging out with him, we had great conversation before the taping, but I could tell that he was here to play and that he was going to be good. I still came very close to winning, but I did feel like maybe I was slipping a little bit. And once it was clear that he was fast on the buzzer, I knew it was going to be a battle all the way.”

"This doesn't feel real."

The final question of the night was, “the only nation in the world whose name in English ends in an H, it’s also one of the 10 most populous,” and Talsma took the win with the answer, “What is Bangladesh?”

Schneider’s total came to $1,382,800, but it was more about the experience for her than the end total.

“It’s really been an honor,” Schneider said. “To know that I’m one of the most successful people at a game I’ve loved since I was a kid and to know that I’m a part of its history now, I just don’t know how to process it.”

Along with her success on the game show, Schneider has become an icon for the trans community. She’s the first trans person to have a history-making streak on the show, and also the first trans person to qualify for the show’s Tournament of Champions.

“The best outcome of all of this always is going to be whatever help I’ve been able to offer the trans community,” Schneider said. “I’m here because of the sacrifices countless trans people have made, often to the extent of risking their lives. To do my part to move that cause forward, it’s really special.”

"I knew that I was taking on a burden of representation, and I will always and forever be proud to say that I’ve done my little part to ease the path for future generations of trans people to live free, open, and happy lives" @Jeopardamy https://t.co/gU0fetzhQo

GLAAD‘s Director of Transgender Representation, Nick Adams, released a statement today regarding how Schneider has made new achievements for the trans community.

“Amy Schneider has given Jeopardy!’s nine million plus nightly viewers a historic 40-game run full of masterful gameplay, while her media interviews and Twitter recaps of each game have given fans a glimpse into her life as a smart, charming transgender woman with a girlfriend and a rescue cat named Meep. Her visibility has been a bright spot, allowing millions of people to root for her success and start conversations about being transgender at a time when proposed bills in states like Arizona, Iowa, Indiana, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Amy’s home state Ohio, are targeting transgender Americans for discrimination. Amy’s achievement will be celebrated for years to come by Jeopardy! fans and LGBTQ people everywhere.”

Last week, GLAAD also announced Schneider will receive a Special Recognition Award at the 33rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards, which honor media for outstanding representation of LGBTQ+ people and issues.
